Submission request to W3C: Semantic Versioning

We, W3C Member(s) CleverThis, hereby submit to the Consortium the following specification, comprising the following document(s) attached hereto:

which collectively are referred to as "the Submission". We request the Submission be known as the Semantic Versioning Submission.

Abstract

Semantic Versioning is a specification for versioning of software and related artifacts. It ensures versions are predictable and meaningful adding semantics to versioning.

Trade and Service Marks

The Submission request or Submission refers to the following trade and service marks (registered or not): Semantic Versioning logo.

CleverThis agrees that the trade and service marks that are associated with and identify this specific Submission, Semantic Versioning logo, will be governed by the W3C Trademark and Servicemark License.

Patents

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 15 September 2020 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

Suggested Action

We suggest that the Consortium hold a workshop to discuss the Submission or any other relevant steps to begin the process of considering this as a future standard.

Resources

To help with this work, we expect to be able to provide the resources of our full team (~15 experts across numerous fields) to the Consortium. This would include a technical writer, several developers and system admins, as well as myself (the CTO).
