I agree that it's a tension between properly camel-casing words and the best guidance for HTML attributes. We looked through the full attribute listing at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Reference/Attributes and found that there were a lot of multi-word attributes that don't have camel casing, so we kind of went with that.

One thing that's different about our attributes, though, is that we have a number of JS-based attributes and hooks that relate to those attributes, and so that may change our priority.
(I believe that we had been advised to avoid camel-casing from deeper HTML attribute experts internally, but am absolutely happy to have a broader discussion about this)
